When Hartford Baking Company celebrates its tenth anniversary in October 2021, owner Scott Kluger indicated that he had big plans for the business in the future. He spoke with several local media outlets to share his plans, saying he wants to “reinvigorate” the brand and expand it into new markets. The company currently has six stores in Connecticut, including two in New Haven and one in Fairfield and Greenwich. According to its Facebook page, the New Haven store is scheduled to open in the fall of next year. In recent months, the company has also discussed expanding into the Washington DC and Baltimore areas.
One of the items on the menu for the new shop is scones, sweetbreads and biscuits. These delicacies are famous across the country and are served at coffee houses, but they add extra decadence when done in a restaurant setting. A scone recipe from the company’s bakery contains a ratio of butter, eggs and cream that is slightly less than the ratios found in traditional recipes. The company’s scone recipes are available on their website. Other specialty items include maple butter scones, cinnamon sugar scones and chocolate chip scones.
